Try Stampin' #17

Hello to everyone!  It is time for another Try Stampin' On Tuesday sketch challenge.

I decided to do a folksy kind of card with gingham and calico print paper and a primative image on it.  I am really making an attempt to mix patterns and am getting more comfortable in little baby steps.

I especially like the sky I did for this image - it is Marina Mist done with a template and layers.

When I look back, I think I should have put the image in a scalloped circle frame rather than the plain-jane circle.   But that is what arts and crafts are about -learning and evolving.

Please visit Try Stampin' On Tuesday to see the examples from the other members of our team.  You will see some awesome talent at work.  And don't forget to visit their blogs and leave them some love.  Also, please give our challenge a try.

Until later,
Happy Stamping!

SOMETHING NEW FOR ME!!

Hello!  thanks for stopping by.  Today I have a card which is completely not me.  I do not do "frilly" ever.  But I decided to enter a challenge over at Sugar Creek Hollow and they are a vintage, or  shabby chic site so, if I wanted to play I had to follow the rules.

The challenge was to make a card which is a different kind of shape.  I chose to make a hexagon out of  Marina Mist and Whisper White.  I used the Vintage Vogue stamp set (meets the rules) and pearls and gauzy ribbon (again follows the rules).  I offset the oval on a flower shape to create some interest and added stitching lines around the oval.  But then I looked at it and it was boring, so------------ I decided to punch it up a bit with a cherry cobbler rose and a vellum butterfly which I lightly sponged in cherry cobbler as well.  That is more like it.  Pretty AND dramatic.
When I sit back and look, I am so pleased with it now that I am sure I will attempt  a similar syle again.  And hopefully get even better with the embellishing!!
Hope you find this project to your liking.   If so, please let me know with your comments.
Thanks for visiting me today.
Happy Stamping!

Unscripted Rock Star

Hello!

Hope your Saturday is going to be awesome!  i have to work so I am not too excited.  Oh well, I am off at 4:00 today so I will still have some time left for fun - if it stops raining.  If not, it will be Saturday night in my stamping room.

Today I have my design team example for the weekly challenge over at Unscripted Sketches.  Our sketch this week is a really fun one and I knew what I wanted to do as soon as I saw it.  I do not usually make funky cards like this but I have a friend who asked me to make a card for her teenaged son.
To start, I made the cool background by dropping alcohol ink by droplets onto glossy card stock and then blowing them around through a straw.  I just kept adding drops until I got the effect I wanted.   The stars were rolled on some lime green cardstock with my Stampin' wheel.  Then I stamped the rocker on red cardstock with versa mark and embossed it with black embossing powder.  For the wording, I did not have a "Rock Star" sentiment so I printed one I liked from the computer.  Just add a few star-shaped brads and you have a rockin' good card.
Please visit Unscripted Sketches to see the designs from the other members of the design team.  Each and every one has a completely different idea for this sketch.  And, who knows, you may want to try our sketch.

Hope you have a great day and Happy Stamping!

Scraplings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until this evening, I had never heard of a scrapling.  But now that I have, I am in LOVE with the little critters.  They are so cute and so quick to make up.

What is a scrapling?  it is a little "mini" card made from the 1 1/4" wide left over if you cut a 5 1/2" X 4 1/4" card down to a square 4 1/4" card.  And I owe all this knowledge to the Try It On Tuesday Challenge blog.

My discovery of scraplings was meant to be.  I was going through the Daily Dare looking for a challenge to do and I clicked on Try It On Tuesday by mistake.  Now, being the inquisitive one, once I entered the site, I wanted to see what it was about.  And this week's challenge is making these little cards.

My scrapling has a background of distress ink which I dragged white card stock through.  I dried it with my heat tool and repeated this process again.  The stamped image is from Watercolor Trio and the flower on top is done using the Punch Potpourri set and corresponding punch.  Did I mention I love this little card.  All I need to do is stamp a sentiment (a small one) inside and it is ready to go.  Not only is it a sweet little card but would make an awesome gift tag as well.  I see lots of them in my future.

It may be worth your while to visit Try It On Tuesday to learn more about these cards.

Until later,
Happy Stamping!

Royal Floral

Good evening!  Wasn't it an exciting niight for Scottie McCreery?  I think America got it right but Lauren was pretty good too.

This evening I have a card I made for the sketch challenge over at Stampin' Royalty.  Somehow, I do not get the chance to participate in their challenges but that is really my loss.  They have wonderful sketches as well as their colour and inspiration ones as well.

My card is Old Olive and some very old DSP which is a rusty colour but I am not quite sure what it is called.  The flower is from the stamp set Just Believe.  To stamp the image, I applied the Old Olive ink on to the stamp by patting the ink pad down on it.  Then I took a tissue and wiped the ink from the flower parts of the picture and then sponged Regal Rose on those areas.  Then I gave the stamp one spritz of water to soften the edges a bit.  That was that.

Instead of a ribbon, I used some jute and wrapped it around the front panel 3 times and tied it off with a button.

Please check out Stampin' Royalty and the amazing design team over there.

Happy Stamping!

Try Stampin#16

Hello again!

This morning I have a card I made for an example for the challenge over at Try Stampin' On Tuesday, a sketch challenge blog where the team uses all Stampin' Up products.  I had major trouble with this sketch - nothing seemed to work so I finally came up with this card.   I love blue and yellow together so I am happy with my colour scheme.  And I really love making the flowers I used for embellishment.
I encourage you to visit Try Stampin' this week and each week to check out the designers' great work and to possibly participate in the challenges . Hope you get a chance to stop by.  Until tomorrow,
Happy Stamping!

Monday Lunchtime Sketch #175

Good Monday evening!  Today I have a    mini-album I made for the Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.  The little book has 10 sleeves in it which hold tags - room for 20 pictures, momentos or journalling.  I tried to give the bear the look of fur by varying the texture on his body (I think I succeeded).  This album is well suited for a friend and her baby .
I chose pink and chocolate chip since I wanted something perfect for a little girl.  The sleeves are cello bags.  (I saw this done on You Tube but I forget who did it - when I find it, I will let you know).  I alternated pink and brown tags to co-ordinate with the rest of the project.  I really like how the album turned out and I think I will do a little boy's book as well.
Please visit Mary Jo Price Williams' blog and give this challenge a try.
Until tomorrow, Happy Stamping!

Stamping 411 Sketch 204

Hello all!

Today my card is for the Stamping 411 sketch challenge this week.  I had a really hard time doing this card.  My mind kept trying to think of a funky background to use but none seemed to fit.  So I made a very clean and simple card instead.  One extreme to the other, LOL.

To make the big  flower, I stamped it on Whisper White cardstock and again on copy paper.  The copy paper one I cut out to form a mask.  Using sponges I inked the entire centre white square with Summer Sun and then masked the flower part off.  I sponged the unmasked parts with layers of Poppy Parade and Red Riding Hood Red.  Then I removed the mask and lightly sponged the flower centre with PP, RRHR and More Mustard intensifying the colour as I got closer to the centre.  The result is a rose which looks pretty natural with all of the shades.

Try as I might, I could not find a patterned paper I liked for this card so I just went with the solid yellow with the bottom part being a rectangle I ran through the Big Shot and then framed in the poppy colour.    Another odd item - the ribbon that looked the best with these colours was More Mustard.  Figure that out.  I loved this sketch at Stamping 411, and I love my bright colours and I love the flower.  I am just disappointed that I was not able to come up with a more inventive background as that is my aim these days.
I encourage you to visit Stamping 411 and give this sketch a try.
Until later,
Happy Stamping!

Unscripted Metal Accents

Hi again!

Sometimes Saturdays get a bit confusing for me.  I have two design team projects which are due every second Saturday and I never know which one to post first.  I do not want one to get lost in the shuffle.  I thought of putting them both in the same post, but then neither challenge is showcased.  So I really have to hope that readers scroll down and check out both.  If you have a better way, please let me know!

The card shown here is my sample for Unscripted Sketches - a weekly sketch challenge blog with a very talented team of designers.  Once a month there is a piggy back to the challenge and this week the piggy back is to use metal somewhere on the card.  Did someone say metal?  I love making metal flowers with my Big Shot.

For these flowers, the large one in the corner is 3 layers using the Daisies #2 die.  The smaller ones are Boho Blossoms stamped with Stazon on the metal sheet and then punched out.  I used a sheet of metal behind the black cardstock as well.

But I really want to talk about my background.  Yet another in my quest to create awesome backgrounds.  For this one, I sponged blue and geen all over a piece of glossy cardstock and, when I had the effect I wanted, I stamped all over with the vine image from Elements of Style in Basic Black ink.  I did have to rotate the sketch for this card but I tried to keep the basic design.

Please visit Unscripted Sketches this week.  I am sure you will love what you see from the other girls and you will want to give our sketch a try.

Happy Stamping!

Sweet Stampin' In The Garden

Good morning and happy Victoria Day weekend to my fellow Canadians!  This weekend I have Sunday and Monday off, hooray!!

Since it is Saturday, that means it is time for another Sweet Stampin' Challenge.  This week it is a combination of a theme -In The Garden and a sketch.  You can use either or both for your challenge entry.  I chose to combine the two for my DT sample.   This little girl is all decked out in her overalls and has her watering can.  Time to make the flowers grow.  My flowers are circles which are snipped in around the edges and then 7 are layered to make one flower.  I moistened the flowers so I could somewhat sculpt them into a bowl shape.
All of the papers I used are discontinued Stampin' Up (using my stash again).

For this card for Sweet Stampin' Challenges I tried a bit of a new style.  I do not usually use all the layers I did here, and I very seldom combine paper patterns.  I had some trepidation doing this but it seems to work.  So I think I might try it again.

I encourage you to visit Sweet Stampin' to see the gorgeous samples by the rest of the team.  These girls are REALLY talented and I am sure you will be spurred on to give our challenge a try.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Cards and Things Challenge

Good evening.  Today I have a second card for you -this one my entry into the Cards and Things Sketch Challenge this week.

Once again, it is all about the background for me.  I created this background by sponging ink on glossy cardstock and then sprinkled water on it.  After heating with a heat tool, the result is what you see.

For the butterfly, I used all the same colours with the exception of the darkest brown - but that sure makes a big difference in tones.   I turned Krista's sketch on its side so that it would accommodate such a big image.

The challenge at Cards and Things is one you will want to check out and possibly enter.  This is a sketch open to all kinds of interpretation.

Thanks for stopping by,

Try Stampin' #15

Good Tuesday morning!  It is time for Try Stampin' On Tuesday once more.  This week, my obsession with background paper is showing.  To make this paper, I placed dots of ink (from reinkers) in Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Kiwi Kiss  on an acetate sheet and then spritzed them with water. I stamped my images on white cardstock with Versa Mark ink and then embossed them with clear embossing powder.  next I randomly sponged the colours onto this cardstock letting the inks overlap to create new colours.  When the paper was dry, I ironed it with a hot iron with copy paper between the paper and the iron.  This removes the embossing and gives you an all-over matte look.   It is my twist on a technique by Sherry Cheever.  This is another effect I love!!!

The daisy is created with the Big Shot and the Daisies Two die.  The card base is Purely Pomegranate.  This is a very dramatic card and I could not have been happier with the result.

Please visit Try Stampin' On Tuesday and give our challenge a try.  I am sure the Stampin' Friends' examples will inspire you.

Happy Stamping!

Monday Lunchtime Sketch #174

Hi!  When I saw the sketch on Mary Jo Price Williams' blog, I knew exactly what I wanted to make- a tag!

Lately, I have been obsessed with background papers.  And the techniques used to create interesting ones.  For today's project, I ran a Brilliant Blue and a Green Galore inkpad over a piece of acetate and then spritzed them with water.  Then I took my tag cutout and dragged it across them both, heat set it, dragged it again at a different andgle, heat set and then repeated the process one more time.  The result is the background you see here.  I LOVE IT!

For the details, I stamped the vine image from Elements of Style  with Green Galore on Whisper White,  then stamped the Punch Potpourri bird on Bashful Blue with Night of Navy and then punched it out using the 2 Step Bird punch. The sentiment is from Whimsical Words.

I hope you will visit my blog again in the near future to see what other wild and unique backgrounds I come up with.  Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Stamping!

Stampin' 411 Challenge 203

Wow, two cards in one day!  For me, that is quite an accomplishment - considering that I usually sit and stare at a sketch for hours before I decide what to make.  This card is for the Stampin'411 Sketch Challenge this week.

It is funny but I knew exactly what I wanted the background to be without even thinking. I dabbed reinkers all over a piece of glossy cardstock. When it had dried, I stamped all over with black ink and the vine image from Vintage Vogue. The scalloped edge and the butterflies are black cardstock sprayed all over with shimmer mist. The butterflies were cut on the Big Shot using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.   Although you cannot tell from the photo, the cardstock is Bermuda Bay and the ribbon Pear Pizzazz.

I hope you like this card and I hope that you visit Stampin'411 to give their sketch a try.
Until later,  Happy Stamping!
