Unscripted Sketches #125/ Tag Of The Day

Good morning!  It has been a pretty hectic week with the start of Autumn Artistry beginning on Tuesday.  I must say that is going very smoothly over there - touch wood.  The projects are fabulous!
I did manage to get my sample for Unscripted Sketches   done yesterday and, since I wanted to do another Tag Of The day, I decided to combine the two.
The flower on the tag is made using a rolled spiral of felt and the sentiment is stamped on a piece of acetate.  To make the tag body, I embossed the large background image from Elements of Style all over using Tangerine embossing powder.  Then I aged it by sponging Crumb Cake randomnly over the entire tag.  The little heart is Crumb cake and the butterfly is from the paper packaging. The centre band is Crumb Cakeand Early Espresso.
You will see I mirrored the image on the sketch.

I hope you will visit Unscripted Sketches.  Our design team is a very talented group and their examples this week are nothing short of fantastic.  You may want to give our sketch a try as well.
Until later,
Have a great day!

Tag Of The Day

Hello again.  It has been a few days since I created a tag.  I have been super busy and something had to suffer.  Unfortunately, it was stamping.  Today's tag is one designed especially for a child.  It is a bit simpler in nature than most of the ones I have done. But with its cute little images from Fang Tastic, it is the perfect tag for that little person (not too scarey).  To punch it up a bit, I added an orange metal daisy using the Big Shot and my Daisies 2 die.
The real character of this tag is its background.  I love sponging cool, Halloween colours together and the effect that is created.  I promise that tomorrow night my tag will be more exciting and dramatic.
Thanks for stopping by!

Sunny Challenge # 7

Hi all, today I have a card I created for the challenge at Sunny Challenges and Creations .  It is a bit different and the flowers are a little big.  But we could only stamp the greeting so - this is it!
To make the flowers, I glued DSP on both sides of chipboard and then cut 3 of the smallest flowers from the Flower Folds die.  I snipped each of the petals in close to the centre and then rolled them up and unrolled them again.  I sponged in black around the edges (I hope sponging was allowed).  I then took some retired Halloween DSP and cut out 3 more flowers and then curled the edges down with a bone folder.  I layered these 2 flowers and then raided my button stash to make the centres.  To make the label I sort of chopped up one of the tags from Lots of Tags.  My colours were old olive, black and whisper white.

This card has its problems but I really like how it would have turned out - had the flowers been smaller.
Thanksfor visiting!

Unscripted Sketches #123

Mornin' to all!  Saturday is Unscripted Sketches day for me.  This morning our sketch is one I had to really think about.  It is not complicated but it certainly made me ponder for a while.   Attached to the sketch was a piggyback (we had to use numbers).  So to me, it had to be a birthday card.  I chose blue,
green and orange for my colours because the retired DSP I decided to use had stripes which would fit the sketch.  For the number part, I ran a Stampin' wheel using Not Quite Navy ink over my orange cardstock.   I found it easier to wheel the cardstock first, then cut it to the length I needed rather than the other way around.  The base card is Not Quite Navy. I layered this orange section on top.  Then all that was left was the sentiment, orange rickrack and baja breeze buttons. (For the "happy birthday" I could not make the enbossing powder stick in the corner so I stamped it and embossed it on another piece of NQN, punched it out and then backed it in only orange.  Then I covered over the mucky part in the corner.

I hope you visit Unscripted Sketches so that you can check out the examples from the other gals on the design team.  They are all so talented and unique that you cannot help being inspired to create.  Who knows?  You may want to enter our challenge.
Well,I am off to work.  Enjoy your day!

Thanksgiving Tag

Hello, another beautiful day here, sunny but crisp.  A perfect prelude to Autumn!  And that is what has inspired my tag for the day.  Since Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, I decided to incorporate a sentiment from "Day Of Gratitude".
I LOVE THIS TAG!!  Colours I used are Old Olive, Soft Suede, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Always Artichoke and Early Espresso.  The stamp sets are Day Of gratitude, Autumn Splendor, Autumn days and Lovely As A Tree.  The trees and sentiment are stamped in Black Stazon.
Instead of ribbon, I used olive yarn for the tie. (I have to get some different fibres because I love this effect.)

Here is the video I made to show you how to create this tag.
Happy Stamping!

Simple Yet Sweet Tag

Hello again!  I know this is hard to believe but I was reading this afternoon and thought of an idea for a very quick tag.
This tag uses Early Espresso and Crumb Cake inks.  The tag itself is Very Vanilla.  The first thing I did was sponge the tag gently and unevenly with the CC.  Then I took a page out of an old book I keep for just such a reason (it had got damaged in our flood a few years ago).  I tore this page to sort of fit the tag and then sponged its edges with EE and glued it on.  Next, I used the CC and lightly sponged the entire surface unevenly.  After that, I inked the large Distressed background stamp with EE and stamped the entire tag. Last step for the tag body was to sponge around the edges with EE.
For the sentiment, I used Blushing Bride DSP and cut a 2 1/4" oval, dirtied it up with CC and a sponge and stamped the message in EE.  I cut a scalloped oval with EE cardstock  and then mounted the message on it. Then glued it to the centre of the tag.  All that was left was the flowers, a couple of pearls and the ribbon and then it was finished.
Very simple and yet very pretty!

Tag Of The Day

Hello!  It is a beautiful day today -sun shining and warm.  it is also my best friend's and his wife's anniversary.  So today's tag is for them.  I am going to attach it to a bottle of wine and drop it off so it is there when they both get home from work.
For this tag, I used basic grey cardstock and basic grey ink for the very subtle background.  I stamped the script from French Foliage down the left side and rolled the Vintage Vogue wheel down the right and then sponged the edges all in the grey.  I then used versa mark and red embossing powder to stamp the sentiment in the bottom left corner.  The hearts are stamped with versa mark and then embossed with black powder on Blushing bride cardstock.  I used bleach to remove the colour from the hearts (as I learned in Andrea Walford's tutorial) and then coloured in the flowers with red marker.  All that was left was to add the pearls and the bow.
Now, I learned a few of things from this tag.  First, always have tiny pearls on hand.  I was out and I think the ones i used were a bit large.  And second, grey on grey looks much better in person.  And third, get a stamp that says "Happy Anniversary" in script.  I had none and "Happiness Always" was my next best choice.
Hope you like this tag and have a great day!!

Hello again!  Guess what!  My card was picked for the weekly "Ray Of Sunshine" award over at Sunny Challenges And Creations!  Thanks so much, ladies.  I really am honoured.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

This is my second post of the day.  Wow!!  That doesn't happen very often!  But there is a new sketch at Sunny Challenges and Creations  and I wanted to get my card done.  Since it is Labour Day weekend, I had some extra time to play.
To do this card, I used only Early espresso, More Mustard and Cajun Craze.  I was going to colour the images in but really liked it just as outlines.  This card came together very quickly - probably because it was so simple in nature.  Since the challenge called for us to use a wheel, I used Take A Sip which goes so well with Morning Cup (the stamp set I used).

It is cool to every once in awhile pull out supplies you don't use that often and I thank the gals at Sunny Challenges  for making me dig out my wheels.
Thanks for visiting and Happy Stamping!

Hi again,  It seems I have become obsessed with tags!  This afternoon I have one that started out as a Halloween tag (in my mind) but soon changed direction.  I made the scalloped edged flower but then could not think of a thing to put with it for the spooky night, so I decided to go a different route and put butterflies on it.
The butterfly stamp is a retired one from Stampin' Up.  I embossed them on the tag and then painted them with shimmer.  The embossing acts as an edge so the shimmer does not bleed over the edges.  To create the main body of the tag, I sponged Concord, Garden green and Pumpkin Pie and blended them well.  I then sprayed it with water so there are some fine dots (hard to see here).  After that, I used the distressed background stamp and basic black and then sponged with black around the edges as well.
The lace is a bit I bought for 5 cents and then stiffened before I glued it on.
Now, if I was to do it over, I think I would make a "fancier"  centre for my flower - but I think I will leave it for now.
Just a note about the charm.  I bought a great big bag from a yard sale for 50 cents (there must be 100 assorted ones in it).
Well, there you have it - my tag for today.  I think I  will make them a regular feature on my blog.  let me know what you think!
Happy Stamping!

Saturday, September 3, 2011

Hi again.
It seems that I have tags, and sponging on my brain.  This evening I have a tag I created using a couple of different techniques.  First I sponged yellow, green and purple all over the cardstock and blended them together well.  Then I dabbed my Versa mark embossing ink all over the surface.  I sprinkled clear embossing powder over the entire tag and then heat embossed it.  What results is a texture like orange peel.  I then sponged black VERY LIGHTLY over this surface to give a bit of a creepy look to the tag.

Next I dug out some Halloween stamps and my Stazon ink.   I stamped all of the images in black.  Now, I will say that the surface was  a bit slippery to stamp on and I had to be really careful or my images were not very crisp.

This tag is perhaps not the best but it was meant to be an experiment and I learned a great deal from this project - so i have to say it was a success.  I think I will go back and add some crystal effects bubbles to the cauldren.  That might be cool.

Well, I hope you too have been inspired to experiment with your stamping.  You never know until you try.  You may just come up with a cool new technique or improve an old one!
Happy Stamping!
Hi, and hope you have a great Labour Day weekend.  it is looking pretty gloomy here and my fingers are crossed that we get some sunny weather.

Today's card again uses the stamp set House of Haunts.  You may get tired of seeing it but I never get tired of using it.  And besides, our sketch at Unscripted Sketches had me completely stumped this week.  So I decided to once again stamp the mansion and then seperate it into pieces to match the sketch.
And once again I sponged the background in cool, eerie colours.  I do promise, however that I will not use this set for my next few cards.  I am going to do a couple more Halloween tags later today but they will not have this house on them - and you can hold me to it.

Now, I may have had trouble with the sketch this week but the other girls didn't.  I ove all the examples from the team and I am sure you will too.  Please visit Unscripted Sketches and check them out.  You will be very happy you did.

Hope you have a great day and also that you have time to stamp.
Thanks for popping by!

Stampin' Queens Sketch #2

Hello, glad you stopped by.
Today I have a card I made for the challenge over at The Stampin' Queens Challenge site.  I had a bit of trouble with this sketch but, in the end, decided I would make a Halloween card (my old fall back).

I used an old favourite of mine - House of Haunts - as well as Wicked Cool and an old, retired stamp for the bat.  There was lots of sponging in Perfect Plum, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Sun and Kiwi Kiss.  As well, I sponged the edges all in Basic Black.  I punched a 2 1/2" hole as a window for the mansion.  The cardstock is Only orange (again retired) and Whisper White.
You will notice that I took quite a bit of license with the sketch but I hope the Stampin' Queens don't mind.
Hope you enjoy this card, and, if you do not mind, please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
