DESIGN TEAM CALL

As you may know, I host a challenge blog named TRY STAMPIN' ON TUESDAY  and one of our designers has resigned.
There is now an opening on our team.  I am looking for one - or possibly two or three- new designers to join our group.
Interested card makers should be creative and willing to create a weekly card (or project) due Monday evenings at 9:00 pm. EST.  We are flexible and understand that you require time off and that things crop up so do not worry if you miss the occasional week. We all have lives.
You should have a blog so that you can post your cards there as well on Tuesdays.
You must be willing to leave positive comments for entrants each week.
You must LOVE paper crafting and being part of a great, fun team.
If you fit this criteria, please email me at cherylsteve.robinson@sympatico.ca.  Please include in the email a link to your blog and a picture of 2 different cards (or projects) which are good examples of your style.
Applications will be accepted until February  6th and I will announce the new designer(s) on February 14th.
I will be looking forward to your submissions!

Try Stampin' #51

' Morning, everyone!  I have been somewhat remiss with my posting lately and for that I apologize.  I have been busy getting ready for Sweet Spring and have been working alot.

Today I have my card for this week's sketch at Try Stampin' On Tuesday.  My card uses a water colour blocking technique that I saw done by Jennifer McGuire and I immediately fell in love with it.
First you emboss an image on watercolour paper with white embossing powder and then you sponge ink mixed with water over top.  The ink soaks into the paper and the result is a neat, blocked background.
Please, if you can fit it in, visit Try Stampin' On Tuesday   this week.  The team have created some beautiful examples and I am sure you will be inspired to create.
Thanks for stopping by!

Unscripted Sketches #143

Hi, sorry it has been a whole week since I last posted but it has been the busiest week ever.  I did have time, however, to get my dt example for this week's challenge at UNSCRIPTED SKETCHES finished.   I decided to do another mini album, and the sketch was my inspiration for the cover.
To create the cover, I used a mixed media technique.  I first coated my chipboard with gesso and then, when dry, I used mod podge to adhere different papers, lace and cutouts to the cover.  The result is a fairly hard cover.  I then placed the flower and some beads in the corner.  As the theme of the paper is items in an attic, I kept the colours soft and did some sponging in brown here and there.
I hope to finish the album this weekend.
Please visit UNSCRIPTED SKETCHES to see the examples from the other ladies on our team.  You will love their designs.  If you want to see my finished album, I hope to have pictures up on Monday or Tuesday.  Please just keep checking.
Thanks so much for visiting and have a wonderful weekend!

Unscripted Sketches #142

Hi!  I have the weekend off - hooray!
Since it is Saturday, that means another great challenge at Unscripted Sketches.  We can always count on Sarah Kaye to come up with good ones and this week is no exception.  Here is the sketch:
This week, my DT example is slightly different.  It uses the sketch almost exactly.  I decided to come up with a card showcasing Jordan and his hockey team (the Spartans).  I used a couple of photos of him (a head shot and an action shot-which I tucked in the pocket) and cut his number from chipboard.  I am going to make one of these for each of the players on his team and give them to the kids next week.  Every game I take lots of pictures so I have lots to choose from. I am sure after making 16 of these I will be glad I am finished.
Please visit Unscripted Sketches and check out the designs from the rest of the team.
Thanks for stopping by!

Floral Mini Album

Hi! As promised, I finished my mini album and  I want to share it with you.  It is an envelope mini made out of business envelopes.  You need six of them to complete the project.
There are lots of pictures but I wanted to show you all the pages and pockets I included. (I did not pull the tags out of the end flaps as they are all the same).
The cover is pretty simple with a key, flowers and a butterfly cut from the paper pack.
The first pair of pages features a pocket to hold three small tags, an acrylic photo mat, a journalling spot and the pocket in the flap.
I love the striped pocket in the second pair of pages.  There is also a photo mat, a large slide-in tag and the pocket under the flap.

This is my favourite tag in the album - a little tag booklet which tucks into the pocket on the left page of the third pair.  The eyelet in the centre forms another pocket on each side of the page.
This tag has a flap which opens show a tag pocket, a photo mat  and a journalling spot.  I did a fair amount of stamping off and then background stamping in this book.

The eyelet pocket is really a paper doily which I cut and reinforced with white card stock.  it holds two small butterfly tags.  A large tag tucks into the pocket.  The band on the right page is acrylic which is stamped and embellished and a large tag tucks underneath.
On one side of the large tag is a photo mat and the reverse is a journalling spot with stamping down the edge.  I like the effect that stamping down the side creates.

These pages have a bird tag with a metal flower acting as a pull tab, a scalloped oval tag which fits under a wrapped string  and   a gate fold pocket and tag.  The flower on the tag acts as a closure for the gate fold pocket.  I may go back and add some embellishment to the gate fold - it is kind of plain looking.

On the final pair of pages there is a little booklet of tags which tucks into the left pocket.  Under the booklet, I have included a journalling spot.  The right page is simply a frame for a special picture.

I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse of my floral album  and that you did not find this post too long.
Thanks for visiting!

Try Stampin' #49

Good morning!  I hope all is well with you and your family.
Today I have my example card for Try Stampin' On Tuesday's challenge this week.  The sketch is a good one designed by Jenn.  I want to thank her for offering to do a few sketches - it sure helps me out.  My card is a very traditional valentine done in crumb cake, pink and red.  It was very simple to make and went together very quickly.

I used a wheel for the background and rolled white over the crumb cake base.  When I cut out the central heart, it looked too plain so I stamped the large floral stamp from Elements of Style over it and I love the effect.
I hope you find the time to visit TRY STAMPIN' ON TUESDAY to view the cards the other girls made and to give our sketch a try.
Thanks for visiting!

Unscripted Sketches #141

Oops!  Yesterday was very hectic and I completely forgot to post my example for this week's Unscripted Sketches challenge.  I have been working on another mini album and thought I would use the sketch for the cover design.  Here it is:
I think I may have to add something - looks a little bare to me.  Will ponder that.  I hope to have the album completed tomorrow or Tuesday.  (I am off both days, Hooray)
Well, I better get ready for work.  Wishing you all a great day.  And don't forget to visit Unscripted Sketches to check out the examples from the rest of the team.
Bye for now!!

Unscripted Sketches #140

Hello and Good Saturday Morning!
It is time for another challenge at Unscripted Sketches Challenges - a very successful sketch challenge blog with a very creative design team.
Our sketch today is a cool one ( all kinds of possibilities) and, when you visit the site, you will see our team has a variety of interpretations.  Here is the sketch:
And my example:
Every once in a while, these little monkeys from Fox and Friends seem to creep into my work.  They are just too cute and I cannot resist them.  This was such a quick and easy card to put together and it is perfect for a child's birthday.

I hope you visit Unscripted Sketches and give our challenge a try.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!  And happy birthday, Sarah!!

Candy Bag Mini

Hi!  I am so excited that I finished my candy bag mini today.  To make it, I used 6 of the little brown candy bags that you get sweets in at the corner store.  My pages ended up being 3 inches by 3 inches and there are lots of pockets (little ones) and journalling spots and  and places to put small photos.  To keep a continuity to the album, I used shimmery pink butterflies throughout and flowers on several pages.  I kept all my papers browns, pinks and burgundy since the book was so tiny and I did not want it to look like a hodge podge.
I am very pleased with this album but I know that the next paper bag album I make will use larger bags - much easier to work with.
Thanks for stopping by!
